Curtain Call Spring 2021

CURTAIN CALL

By

Matthew Garlin

When a first-time playwright is given the chance to have her first play produced professionally, she finds that rehearsals take a left turn when a director, who is too reliant on spectacle in theater, decides to add additional elements to make the show more commercial. It’s up to the producer to try to keep the peace between the playwright and the director, as well as the three actors who are having personal relationship problems of their own.

The play is written in a fast rhythmic manner in the style of David Mamet or Aaron Sorkin.

“Ladies’ Day” live theater performance

Ladies’ Day created by Kirby Gosnell

Ladies’ Day portrays the final rallies and meetings of the women’s
suffrage movement in Nashville, Tennessee as the Tennessee State
Legislature considered ratification of the Women’s Suffrage Act, 19th
Amendment to the United States’ Constitution in August 1920. Ladies’ Day
presents the political propaganda and arguments on both sides of the
topic, as they would have been presented to the public in 1920 and was
developed using authentic speeches and propaganda songs from the
suffrage movement.

This production, a collaboration between Historic Beverly and the North
Shore Players,  will take place outside on the lawn at Hale Farm.

Limited capacity, please purchase tickets in advance.

$25; $20 members. Tickets available on the Historic Beverly website
www.historicbeverly.net, by phone @978-922-1186 or at the Cabot House at 117 Cabot Street in Beverly.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Beverly Cultural
Council, a local agency that is supported by the Mass Cultural Council,
a state agency.
